Oculus Founder Can't Find Wife Docking Station After Marriage
SAN DIEGO — Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey expressed confusion this week as he searched for a docking station for his recently married wife, convinced she should be tethered and used with another headset.
"Where's the station?!" said Palmer, frantically looking around his sleek San Diego studio. "I remember unpacking her from the box, playing thrilling activities, then putting her away until I wanted to use her again. I just don't remember where I docked her. What a great value! I get to use my wife for all kinds of things and simply put her away when I'm done without having to disassemble the entire setup! Maybe I accidentally bumped her dock under the couch or something. Dang! It's just so hard to know where they go sometimes."
Luckey explained that he enjoys spending time with his wife but needs to find the right dock before doing so. "So here's the thing. I want to keep her as fresh as possible, right? After a long ordeal of tactics and combat in the living room, I put her back in the docking station at night. Last weekend we took a vacation, and I just can't recall whether I put her in the dock or just in the box. I really hope I put her in the dock so she could charge and stay ready for use. It's just so easy to forget! I hope I didn't leave her sitting in the box too long. There's a chance she's no longer a current model. Every time I set her up, there are a bunch of software updates that slow things down, and sometimes she'll repeatedly tell me, 'We're having trouble connecting,' and I'll have to move her to a different slot."
At publishing time, Luckey confirmed that although there didn't seem to be any apparent damage, his wife now behaved in a more glitchy, erratic fashion. "Hmm. Weird. I thought the static damage warning was just a suggestion..."
Luckey's friends noted he should talk to his wife about the issue—a suggestion that irked Palmer. "Nah, it'll be fine. I'm sure I can do a workaround. There will just be a choice in the menu I'll have to juggle until it works. She'll be good enough for a long time..."
