10 Pesky Laws Yeah, GTA VI Launch Still Hasn't Worked Around
Take-Two Interactive is doubling down on the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, while assuring players that they've worked really hard to make sure the game complies with at least half of the laws in as many states.
"We understand there's been some concern about whether or not GTA VI will be hitting the shelves in 2025 or 2026, and we're pleased to announce that, yes, it will be out by fall of 2025," said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick in a statement. "We've worked closely with Rockstar Games to be sure GTA VI reflects the spirit of the United States by having a complicated yet ultimately unenforced traffic code, as well as regulations around firearms and controlled substances where half the country doesn't allow you to have fun but the other half is cool with it. Rest assured, it's on the way."
Zelnick also took the opportunity to share that the companies are highly confident in all the upcoming titles in their respective franchises to adhere to existing state laws as much as reasonably possible, including a new BioShock game that will make a good-faith effort to only have players discharge firearms in designated areas, as well as NBA 2K’s updated career mode that will require players to pay college athletes before recruiting them.
At publishing time, while Zelnick had confirmed that Rockstar Games is hard at work making sure GTA VI is up to code in all 50 states, he admitted the game might run into complications overseas if Europe doesn't get off their high horse and start allowing more video game nudity.
